Choosing the right location within your venue can significantly impact ATM usage and revenue. This checklist ensures optimal placement.
Ten Point Site Check
- Entrance sightline within the first five seconds of entry
- Camera coverage visible on the machine and approach
- Lighting at or above 300 lux and no glare on the screen
- Power outlet within two meters and on a dedicated circuit if possible
- Wired Ethernet or reliable wireless with a protected modem location
- Clear floor space for approach and turning including a firm level surface
- No line blocking primary checkout or exit paths
- Anchorable base or wall bracket and space for rear service
- Wall and floor that can accept signage without damaging finishes
- Space for a small queue during peaks without obstructing others
Data Collection
Daily headcount estimate, weekend peak hours, percentage of cash payments, nearest competitor ATM and fee, average stay length, security incidents in the last year, and whether staff can visually monitor the machine.
Common Placement Issues
If the ideal spot has no power, measure distance to the nearest outlet and plan for a tidy conduit run along floor or wall. If the best spot blocks a queue, shift off the main path by one or two meters so the machine remains visible but does not interfere with lines.
